WARRINGTON's shares in landfill company 3C Waste have been sold for more than £26 million.
As part of a joint £120 million venture with Cheshire and Halton, Warrington Borough Council sold its stake in the company to Yorkshire Environmental Solutions Ltd (YES), a subsidiary of Yorkshire Water.
YES has agreed to lease the Arpley Meadow site from the council for the remainder of its operational life, providing the council with a further income for the next eleven years.
The waste management arm of YES is due to merge with the Waste Recycling Group, which will have the option of acquiring 3C Waste at a later date.
A council spokesman said the sale would strengthen the council's ability to protect the interests of the community and that it would ensure that the proceeds of the sale were used to the best advantage to Warrington.
