A NEW fire cadet scheme is being launched in Widnes.
Young people aged 12-17 will be invited to meet weekly at Widnes fire station to carry out training and become involved in community activities.
The initiative has won the support of the recently-formed combined fire authority.
Vice-chairman, Halton councillor Rob Polhill said: "I have been supportive of this scheme from the start.
"I know the local station commander has been active in getting partners in local businesses to help the scheme along.
"I am delighted to announce that North and Mid Cheshire Training and Enterprise Council have invested £1,400 in the project."
A dozen young people will be recruited later this year.
