Winsford 96 Prestbury 97-5

Meller Braggins League Division One

A DISMAL batting display from Winsford cost them dearly for the second week running.

After being asked to bat they lost the wicket of Johnson in the second over without scoring.

Wickets then started to fall with ease, and with only Paul Yearsley (21) reaching double figures out of the top seven batsmen, it left Winsford embarrassingly on 42-7.

Only a late surge by Andy Cooper (14), Colin Dean (17) and an excellent 23 by Chris Brandon gave Winsford any respectability.

Winsford used their 45 overs in reaching the total and this clearly meant the wicket was not easy to score on.

This proved true as Winsford's opening bowlers, Andy Beswick and Mark Dean, conceded only two runs in the first seven overs.

Beswick then claimed the wicket of Thompson in the 11th over with the score on 10, but a partnership by Cheetham (52) and Hawkwood (26) took the game away from Winsford.

They went on to take four more wickets but Prestbury reached their total in the 36th over. The Winsford bowling figures were: Beswick 1-21, M Dean 0-33, B Crellin 1-18, C Dean 3-20.
