VOLUNTEERS are hoping to use the latest computer technology in their bid to help young people in crisis.
Visyon, which is based at 43a West Street, Congleton, was formed in response to rising rates of suicide among young people.
Another issue which sparked its creation was concern from parents who had identified gaps in provision for young people with mental health problems.
The group is aiming to increase its work via Web sites and E-mail, and is seeking a grant from Congleton town council to help fund the cost of the necessary computer equipment.
"One of the areas Visyon has focused on is that of supporting young people who are excluded by their lack of social skills,'' said group administrator Elizabeth Forrester.
"These young people are already socially excluded by their mental health problems and by their adolescence.
"Our approach has been to offer one-to-one intervention and supportive group work both in school and out.
"Part of this work could be done on the computer linked to Web sites and E-mail.
"For this we require a telephone line, a modem and other equipment.''
Visyon stands for Voluntary Initiative Supporting Young Peoples Ongoing Needs, and can be contacted on 290000. Its parton is Congleton MP Ann Winterton.
