CHURCH leaders are looking at installing a surveillance system to protect children at a nursery school.
The school is run by the Congleton-based New Life Church, which is situated at the Danesford Community Centre in West Road.
The system is estimated to cost more than £2,600, and as the nursery school is non-profit making the church is seeking grant aid to pay for the security system.
"In view of the ever increasing dangers to children we are proposing to install a closed circuit television camera at Danesford Community Centre,'' said Stephen Hodgkinson, the leader of the church and chairman of the trustees.
"This initiative is mainly for the protection of our nursery school children.
"We have taken professional advice on the installation of CCTV, and have received a quotation for £2,688.
"Our pre-school group works on a break-even basis, and we therefore need to raise additional funds to cover the costs of this investment in CCTV.''
The church has approached the Congleton Inclosure Trust to ask if it would support the scheme by making a grant towards the total cost.
Mr Hodgkinson added he understood Congleton Town Council was prepared to support local pre-school groups, and had written a similar request for help to councillors.
