Sandbach 1sts 12 St Edwards O.B 41
WITH three teenagers in the team Sandbach started well delivering the ball at pace and controlling the open play. Gradually the Sandbach pack began to lose the battle up front and St Edwards turned pressure into points and took control. The final score did not really reflect the closeness of the game with St Edwards taking no less than three interception tries.
Sandbach 2nds 23 Old Longtonians 27
Another young team showed Longton some impressive rugby by soaking up early pressure and turning that back with a vengeance to go into the break leading by two points. During the second half the Longton twin South African centres managed to neutralise all the Sandbach creativity and score two tries against the play. Despite a late Sandbach revival, led by Sandbach man of the match, Alan Harrison, the home team failed to make the final score and capture the match.
Sandbach 3rds 49 Ormskirk 5
Forward power and threequarter guile left Ormskirk on the wrong end of a sound display by the experienced Sandbach team. The first half belong to Sandbach and for a while Ormskirk looked to be making their way back into the match, when a Sandbach full back scored three tries in 16 minutes to finish the game.
Sandbach Vets 44 Macclesfield 14
Sandbach took twenty minutes to shake off summer. During this time, some determined Macclesfield defence saw them prevent Sandbach scoring, whilst themselves chalking up two goals from break-aways.
This sobered up Sandbach, who settled down to a simpler but more effective style.
Tries came from push-over scrums and driving play from the forwards and as the nerves settled, some brilliant play from the backs. At half-time, Sandbach had taken the lead. Macclesfield tired and the second half belonged solely to Sandbach.
