NANTWICH looks set to have a special friendship agreement with a village in Germany which already has close links with the town.

There is only one secondary school in the borough's twin town of Bischofsheim and this has exchanges with Kings Grove High in Crewe.

Malbank High School pupils now take part in exchange trips with youngsters from the Anne-Frank Schule in Raunheim, a nearby village.

The council in Raunheim has suggested that a Friendship Accord could be set up between the two towns based on the contacts made through the school exchanges.

The agreement would be used to endorse the affection and friendship between the towns and has five main aims.

These are:

To build on existing contacts between the two towns, particularly concerning young people.

To foster greater knowledge and understanding of life, education and history of the towns.

To honour and respect the culture and way of life of both countries to help towards a lasting and peaceful future.

To continue to support and enhance facilities for exchanges between Malbank and Anne-Frank Schule.

To achieve these high ideals by establishing humane and cultural relations from person to person, town to town and country to country.

Bischofsheim has no objection to the agreement and the Accord would not commit the borough council to financially supporting exchanges.
