ON the opening day of the season in the newly-named Plettac NSG Runcorn Sunday League, last year's Premier Division champions Cherry Sutton clinched a 4-3 victory over Castle.
Runners-up Old Transporter also won by the odd goal as they defeated Wellie 1-0. Norton Arms opened their account with a 3-0 win over St Andrews. Top scorers of the division were Burma Star as they hammered seven past Bridgwater.
In the First Division Golden Wonder crashed nine past Red Admiral and Halewood Labour struck six against Hough Green.
Thatto Heath and Union Tavern both recorded single-goal away wins against Waterloo and Travellers Rest respectively. High Legh also won away from home, defeating Weston Point Seniors 1-3, but their reserves lost 8-2 against Halfway Runcorn.
Riverside had McCarthy and Jones on target in their 2-0 win over Railway while Forresters kicked off with a 4-3 win over Canalside Athletic. Other new clubs didn't fare so well as Pipe & Gannex lost 1-0 to Golden Wonder Reserves and Trebla went down at home to Todd Dynamoes by the same score.
