YESTERDAY evening, September 6, a group of friends and myself went to see "50 Glorious Years" starring Danny La Rue and the other stars of yesteryear.

We had comfortable seats in the centre circle and began to settle down to enjoy the show, but when the show began all we could hear was a loud buzzing noise and few mumbled words, it was terrible.

When Danny La Rue came on we had to shout to tell him that we could not hear him. He obliged and they tried, for a few minutes, to get it right, but there was no joy.

I love the theatre and if the Parr Hall is to be Warrington's only theatre we must get it right.

If we are to host the future stars that are advertised in the "Your Venue" column in the GUARDIAN, this is imperative.

The show that I went to was held up for 15 minutes or more to let the sound crew sort out the problem. The audience were wonderful and patient but I suspect Danny La Rue was more than slightly embarrassed, if not very annoyed.

Come on Parr Hall, don't let Warrington Down, let's get it right when the Male Voice Choir, Chas and Dave and Freddie Starr, etc come to town.

Parr Hall manager John Perry says that the problem arose when an amplifier went down. It took 15 minutes to rewire and Danny, as a seasoned pro, understood and accepted the situation.

"During the enforced interval the orchestra continued to play and the audience joined in a sing-a-long," said John.

"A new sound system is to installed over the next few weeks so there shouldn't be any further problems. We're sorry if the incident spoilt the evening for Danny fans."
