Spring View 20 Widnes Albert 18
ALBERT came within a whisker of taking the points in a game that they hardly deserved to lose.
An early penalty by Dave Yeomans opened their scoring but the Wigan side drew level with a kick of their own and then took a 6-2 lead with two similar efforts. The Albert were handling the ball well considering the wet conditions and they moved the ball out to the right for winger Ian Abram to go over in the corner. Spring View retook the lead after going through a gap in the Albert defence for a converted try next to the posts. On the stroke of half-time they increased their lead with a penalty giving them a 14-6 advantage at the interval.
The Albert started the second-half with all guns blazing and they were soon back into the game with Graham Snowling. Yeomans kicked the extras to bring the Albert to within two points of the Wiganers.
Spring View increased their lead with a dubious try in the corner following a kick through on the last tackle. A superb touchline conversion gave them a 20-12 lead.
The Albert's forwards worked superbly and they reduced the deficit when a beautiful inside ball found Tim Leech who burst through for a try next to the posts. Yeomans conversion making it 20-18 to the home side.
Roose Pioneers provide the opposition this week. The game at Wade Deacon School kicks off at 2.30.
