WINSFORD and Middlewich farmers are to protest in Blackpool against the Government's economic policy, which they say is squeezing the life out of the industry.

They will demonstrate with thousands of colleagues from all over Britain on Sunday, September 27, the start of the Labour Party Conference.

They will call for the Government to put rural Britain high on its priority list and 'Keep Britain Farming'.

Fiona Foster, acting regional director of the NFU's north west branch, said: "The Government's economic policy, which has seen sterling and interest rates soar, is knocking our industry from all sides.

"In addition, the export ban on British beef is continuing to wear down the livestock sector."

She added: "We are calling for the Government to champion the cause of agriculture so that Britain has a viable and competitive farming industry in the years to come."

The demonstration will begin with a rally at Blackpool Football Club and will be followed by a march past the Winter Gardens, the venue of the Labour Party Conference.
