I READ about the resignation of councillors Scott and Maureen Marsh with sadness and anger.

Having had dealings with both the town council and the Labour Party and sat at many meetings, I can assure you we have lost the best councillors.

From experience I learned they were the only ones there not for ego, not for a picture in the paper, but for us, the people and children of this town.

I rang Maureen on behalf of a young woman on Nixon Drive who had flooding. Maureen had just come in from work and the children needed feeding, yet she was there within 10 minutes.

Scott Marsh was the only councillor to speak on behalf of parents and children of this town regarding the gay situation at our carnival, yet they all knew about it.

Remember a letter in the Guardian asking why our mayor, Clr Pam Booher, was not smiling? It takes more than a sad face to fight for us. It takes talking to the press and giving your opinion, with our children in mind, as did Scott Marsh.

I, and I am sure the public, prefer this type of councillor to a councillor known all over Cheshire, from County Hall down, as a man who gets what he wants, but who never gets what WE want.

It grieves me to have people tell me they are not going to vote at the next election because of the councillors we have today. If you do not vote you are, in fact, leaving in the same councillors.

Go to town council meetings. Go to the spring meeting, when you can have your say and answer them back.

I suggest that Scott and Maureen should stand as independent councillors.

Irene Armstrong.
