MIDDLEWICH Town manager Dave Twite has called on a mixture of youth and experience to help him boost Middlewich Town's fortunes in their first Mid-Cheshire League campaign.

A rousing display from a team containing six teenagers put paid to Poynton on Saturday - with a little help from former Winsford United manager John Bingham.

Twite has called on Bingham for an extra bit of temporary assistance, which he feels could be invaluable after a disappointing start to the season - and there are already signs that he may have pulled a masterstroke.

He said: "I aksed John to get involved in some coaching before the Knutsford game because after the defeat by Bollington I felt we needed something different.

"His experience and presence is ideal and we've drawn one and won one since he's been involved."

Bingham, a former Middlewich Athletic player, has been running the Denbigh pub in Winsford for over a year since he left the Barton Stadium hot seat at the end of the 1996-97 season.

But he has revealed that he is now interested in becoming involved in management again.

He said: "I'm not at Middlewich in any capacity, I'm just helping out for a few weeks.

"But if the right job did come along elsewhere I'd jump at the chance to be involved in management again.

"Now we have the business sorted out I've been going to games in the area, just keeping an eye on things and seeing what's about."

Twite said that the first half of Saturday's 4-3 win was "the best 45 minutes we've played since I became manager," mainly due to a sparkling debut from 17-year-old Gareth Langley.

Town will be at full strength for the first time this season when they travel to Garswood this weekend, so the boss could be left with a selection headache.

He said: "I will be sticking with some of the younger lads but Garswood is a tough game so we need the more experienced players to come back.

"Langley has an old head on young shoulders and there's no way you can drop him after a performance like that."
