It is surprising that formal crossings should be installed where they are needed least.
It is even more surprising that the School Lane arm of the crossroads, used mostly by school children, is not going to have a crossing signal.
The fact that there has not been an accident for many years suggests that the crossroads are safe.
Without careful consideration, the statement "Do we have to wait for an accident?" is a demand for action to allay personal fears that may be unjustified, but if crossings make councillors and some residents feel happier they will, as my original letter said, do no harm.
There is, as far as I am aware, no requirement for crossings to be accompanied by railings.
