Janis, from Meadow Road, Weaverham, won her medal competing for Scotland in the small bore doubles shooting in the early hours of yesterday, Tuesday.
It was Janis' first appearance in an international for Scotland. She moved to Northwich from Edinburgh eight years ago.
Janis joined Shirley McIntosh, a Commonwealth Games individual gold medalist from four years ago, to win the doubles' team event medal.
They were third behind the Canadian and South African teams.
England finished eighth.
Her husband Robert said: "She rang me at half past four in the morning to tell me the good news.
"I was a bit shocked because I didn't think she was in action until tomorrow - the time table seems to have changed.
"She was absolutely delighted.
"Although she had been shooting for an hour in high humidity she wasn't tired, she was too busy celebrating."
Janis, 43, has been shooting for 20 years.
But it is only recently that she has started to look for success on an international scale.
Robert added: "It has only been in the last two years that she has had this ambition to compete in the Commonwealth Games.
"It has taken her that long to train to the standard she is now at."
Janis was the support shot in the pairing of herself and Shirley.
Shirley is the country's number one and Janis now the number two.
"She did really well to keep up with Shirley because she is the country's best.
"Had Janis not been on top form they would have struggled because they shoot as a team," explained Robert.
The performance also delighted the rest of Janis' family, her mother Agnes saying: "I'm very proud, she's done brilliantly."
Janis was also in action in the air rifle event on Monday, in which she finished high up the rankings but outside the medals.
She is expected to return to competition for the individual small bore event.
