Oldham Town 1

Warrington Town 5

By COLIN SERJENT

WARRINGTON prospered at Oldham on Saturday for the second time in eight days to lift themselves off the bottom of the North Western Trains League second division table.

Town's first league win of the season and their highest away league victory for three years followed hot on the heels of knocking Oldham out of the FA Cup one week earlier.

Striker Kevin Dack, signed from Tetley Walker last week, illustrated why he finished top scorer in the North West Counties League last season.

He fired home a superbly struck volley on the run from 20 yards midway through the first half.

Oldham had earlier netted the first of two own goals they conceded in the game, when defender Brett Draper beat his goalkeeper with an attempted clearance.

Warrington coasted into a 3-0 half-time lead when Kevin Tyrrell steered in a low drive beyond 'keeper Wayne Shepherd.

Oldham, after pulling a goal back through Paul Buckley on the hour, suffered a further mishap in defence moments later.

Wayne Barford diverted in an attempted shot on goal by Paul Berry, who produced an impressive performance with his probing runs on the right flank.

Tyrrell then doubled his tally soon after to round off the scoring, hammering a shot into the roof of the net following a cross by Dack.

Warrington: Thompson, Routledge, Cartledge, Johnson (Brown 74mins), Hunt, Bold, Berry, Tague, Dack (McDonnell 76), Tyrrell, Stockton (Whitehead 70).

Warrington face a difficult task at Cantilever Park tomorrow, Saturday, when they meet North Ferriby United in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Their opponents narrowly missed promotion to the UniBond League last season after finishing runners-up in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
