Curzon Ashton 0
Tetley Walker 1
TETLEY Walker ended their dismal run of four consecutive defeats with a battling win at Curzon Ashton.
Assistant manager Jimmy Drewery, in charge in the absence of manager Chris Coulson, made eight changes to the line up from the previous game and was rewarded with a spirited display from a highly committed team.
Although both sides had several opportunities to score Walker enjoyed the better of the first half.
After the break the home side started to control the game but with 10 minutes to go Walker hit them on the break to take the lead.
Simon Pickett picked up the ball wide on the left hand side of midfield before threading the ball through to Justin Farrelly, who delicately chipped the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.
Pickett almost added a second a minute later when he raced on to a Steve Hunt through ball but shot wide under pressure.
The home side laid siege on the Walker goal in a frantic finale during which they forced a succession of corners. Excellent goalkeeping by Gary Swann and desperate defending kept Curzon at bay as Walker held on for a long overdue and much needed win.
Team: Swann, Sanson, Webster, Street, Hunt, Roberts, Farrelly, Preidt, Turner, Pickett, Healey. Subs: Green, D. Plant, Drewery.
Tomorrow, Saturday, Tetley Walker visit Fleetwood Freeport, 3pm, and on Tuesday travel to Oldham Town, 7.30pm.
