JASON Roach looked like a man with a weight off his shoulders after scoring two fine tries against Bradford on Sunday.

The 27-year-old showed real pace to outstrip the Bulls defence from the half way line on both occasions and left the Wolves' fans wondering why they had not seen similar fireworks earlier in the season.

He hinted at a return to form with two tries at Castleford three weeks ago, but Roach has not hit his peak since scoring four tries at Wakefield in the Challenge Cup.

The winger admits his form has been below par all season but is now hopeful that he can show the Wilderspool faithful what he is really capable off.

He said: "My main job as a winger is to finish. That's why I got into rugby and I've always had a decent scoring record at all my previous clubs.

"I showed the real me at the Wakefield game but it went wrong against Leeds when a second rower caught me and I missed a couple of other chances. That knocked my confidence and it's hard to win it back from there.

"I've had a couple of chats with the coach recently and he's been saying I've got to believe in myself and take my opportunities. I decided to back myself in this game and it did the job.

"I knew it was going to be close with Stuart Spruce closing me down for the first try but I believed in my pace and kept going. I know I'm fast but I think I've forgotten that a bit at times this year."

Having proved he can turn on the style away from home, the fans can only hope Roach finally proves he can do it at home as well when Wigan come to town on September 27.
