Blackburn 32
Lymm 14
LYMM Rugby Union club were beaten by a Blackburn team who were sharper to the loose ball and performed the basics to clinical effect.
Lymm started with a flyer when the ball squirted out of the scrum and scrum half Nick Slater reacted first to send the ball down the line for Andy Holloway to score in the corner. Chris Elliott converted.
Lymm enjoyed their share of a fast open game for 20 minutes before Blackburn took control to score two tries and a penalty before half-time.
Thoughts of a comeback were quickly dashed when Blackburn raced to a comfortable 27-7 lead midway through the second half.
But credit is due to Lymm who came back the stronger in the last quarter and substitute Rob Berry set up a superb try finished off by Nick Kennedy. Elliott added the extras.
Bad habits of last season all surfaced again when unforced errors by Lymm invited the kind of pressure that will prove costly in this quality professional league.
Coach Steve Rule will be working hard with his squad in the weeks ahead.
