A NEW railway station, improving access to Bank Quay station, moving bus stops and creating additional cycle parking are all ideas under discussion in a bid to improve transport integration in the town centre.
At a meeting on Wednesday, councillors looked at a report assessing the current situation and suggesting improvements.
The new station, which would be located to the north of Froghall Lane, is only an idea at the moment. The report says: "The site would have road access problems and is hemmed in on a tight site when generous car parking would be desirable. For a smaller sum than would be needed for a new station, many of the problems of the existing facilities could be solved."
The report also says: "Remedying the isolation of Bank Quay station is a difficult problem to address.
"Improving bus services and pedestrian access are initial possibilities but bus services tried previously were unsuccessful. A convenient taxi link could be a means of bridging the gap."
Director of Technical Services Keith Millington said: "Members are very positive about the bus and rail integration ideas and are very supportive of the work we are doing.
"They want to come together as a group of chairmen with Warrington Borough Transport and the other companies involved. The next step is to really build up the ideas and turn them in to reality."
