BOROUGH leaders have given their support to a bright idea aimed at regenerating the River Mersey.
The council is supporting a millennium project by the Liverpool Architecture and Design Trust to illuminate key landmarks along the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal.
Council leader John Gartside said he strongly supported the idea: "This is a town that has turned its back on the Mersey and it is one way of bringing the river back into the town.
"Hopefully it will encourage development on the river and we can have restaurants, pubs and offices facing the Mersey rather than backing on to it."
