THE route commences with the existing roundabout junction at the north end of the A534 Haslington Bypass. From here, it leaves the roundabout in a north easterly direction, curving to the left towards Mill Lane. Over this 900 metres, the route runs close to existing ground level over gently undulating land. Mill Lane will be connected to the bypass on the eastern side with a T-junction. A pedestrian underpass is provided here.
The route continues on a left hand curve for approximately 300 metres in a northerly direction to Cotton Lane. Over this length the road passes onto embankment of up to 6 metres in height with Hassall Brook and Malkin's Brook crossing beneath the embankments in new culverts.
A viaduct 120 metres long takes the road over Cotton Lane, the Trent and Mersey Canal, and the River Wheelock, Cotton Lane is diverted a little to the south of it's present alignment to obtain the necessary headroom under the viaduct. The viaduct will provide an open aspect for local residents and users of Cotton Lane, the canal and the tow path.
From the viaduct the route passes onto an embankment up to 9 metres high crossing over a man made lake on a right hand curve to the line of a dismantled railway 100 metres away. A new pond will be created to replace the existing.
From the railway line, the route continues on a long right handed flat curve passing immediately into a cutting for approximately 650 metres. Houndings Lane is severed by this cutting so an accommodation and bridleway bridge is provided.
The route then continues on the same right handed curve on embankment as far as the Sandbach Inner Relief Road, a length of 450 metres. An existing roundabout provides a junction for the Bypass with the Sandbach Inner Relief Road.
