THREE years of dedication and hard work will bear fruit this weekend when Congleton Air Training Corps unveils a new building.

The long-awaited extension to the squadron's Rope Walk HQ is being dedicated to the memory of two young cadets killed in a car accident in November 1994.

The purpose-built two-storey extension is due to be opened on Sunday by air cadets Commandant Air Commodore J Kennedy and Congleton MP Ann Winterton.

The occasion will begin with a special 'Battle of Britain' service at St Peter's Church, Congleton, followed by a reception at Rope Walk.

Local people will have the chance to see the new building at an open day from 11am to 3pm on September 26.

"The two-storey extension to our headquarters will allow the squadron to expand its activities and increase its intake of new cadets considerably,'' said Flt Lt Rod Goodier.

On the ground floor there is a modelling room in which cadets can learn how to make plastic and wooden aircraft, in addition to a garage complex, storage and project room and wash and shower room.

On the first floor is a conference, video and planning room, and uniform kitting out and newcomers rooms.

The extension also has a computer suite and flight simulator, and an informal meeting room.
