Some of the UK's top folk bands are to perform at the town hall this autumn after being signed up by Congleton Celtic and Acoustic.
The new group was formed to bring top acoustic and Celtic music to South Cheshire, with the newly-refurbished town hall seen as an ideal venue.
"We're not aiming to compete with Biddulph Folk Club, but rather to complement what it's doing,'' said group founder Eric Cox.
"Biddulph Folk Club is mainly for solo and duo acts, whereas the new group is aimed at bigger bands.
"The Biddulph Arms can only hold 80 people, whereas Congleton town hall will seat about 300.
"We have been looking for a bigger venue to put on quality acts, and were really impressed by the new-look town hall. It is an absolutely superb venue.''
The Albion Band kick off the autumn season at the town hall on October 18, followed by Anam, Craobh Rua, Show of Hands and a Christmas show by Fairport Convention.
"These bands are the best in the country, and hopefully this will provide the launch pad for bringing many of the top Celtic, Irish and Scottish acts to Congleton,'' said Mr Cox.
