DETECTIVES are hunting a person who assaulted a man in Halton View on Friday night, leaving him seriously injured in hospital.
The 47-year-old victim was walking home with his girlfriend along Hargreave Court after leaving the Castle pub shortly before midnight when he was set upon and beaten by an assailant
Police say there is no apparent motive for the assault.
Although no weapon was used, the victim was left with severe facial injuries.
He was taken to Warrington Hospital before being transferred to Fazackerley, where his condition was described as "very poorly".
His girlfriend was not injured in the attack.
The attacker is a white male, aged between 25 and 30 years. He has short, light-coloured hair and very pale skin.
He spoke with a Widnes accent and was wearing a light-coloured shirt or seatshirt at the time of the attack.
Widnes CID are appealing for public help in tracing the man. Anybody who can assist with information is urged to contact police on 01244 613735.
