Duckenfield 3

MOORE went into this First Round Tetley Vase game as underdogs to a powerful Duckenfield side which included former Great Britain full-back Graham Steadman.

Moore showed how much they have progressed in recent seasons, and got down to the task from the start, taking on Duckenfield in the forwards and applying pressure through their backs.

The first-half was a hard-fought contest and the half-time score of 3-3 reflected this, Moore's points coming from the boot of Ian Allen.

From the start of the second-half, Moore benefiting from a new training regime, were able to raise their game and with an excellent effort from the Moore pack, with Ian McLarney outstanding leading the eight Moores backs, they were able to run in tries from Colin Stephenson and Ian Allen.

Moore forwards Ian Williamson and Tony Hallworth also got a try each.

Ian Allen converted three of the four tries and also added a second penalty. Full-back Colin Stephenson was awarded mom.

The game must rate as one of Moore's greatest victories, and pays tribute to the coaching given by Frank William and his assistants.

Moore would hope for a home draw in the second round.

MOORE'S third team's first outing of the season ended in defeat.

Encouraging was the number of young newcomers that Moore were able to field and reflects the strength in depth Moore are now building.
