Then same fast ball handling resulted in a second try for Helsby when Phil Gibson finished off in the corner from P Taylor's pass.

The home side then started to relax for a while letting the visitors back in the game with a try and a penalty.

It was not long before Helsby hit top gear again, wing-forward John Williams going over for a try following a scrum. Half-time 17-8.

Helsby started off the second-half even more stronger running in six tries, two from Gordon Lilley and John Williams.

They could have had more points when, following the move of the match, Phil Gibson raced 50 yards into the corner for a try which was unfortunately disallowed when the referee adjudged the ball was dropped over the line, still Helsby finished off in style.

Mom, Mark Davies sealed it with two late tries, both converted by D Orme.
