The celebration starts with a procession at Rudheath High School followed by Groundwork chairman Jim Bisset welcoming a host of VIPs to an afternoon of activity.

This will include talks, videos, dance and poetry reading.

On Saturday, the Rudheath Community Fun Day will kick off at the St John's Field part of Griffiths Park at 10am with football and hockey coaching sessions followed by the official opening.

Griffiths Park is a project involving the local community, voluntary, public and private sectors. Eventually 17 hectares of derelict land will be turned into a recreational area for Rudheath's residents. The park should open early in 2000.

The main partners in the project are ICI, Zeneca, The Millennium Commission, Groundwork, Cheshire County Council, Vale Royal Borough Council and the local community.
