For romantic Keith Davis popped the question over the public address system to his sweetheart Carol Knowles as she worked on the checkout during her afternoon shift in the Winsford store.

Lovestruck Keith couldn't see Carol as he made his announcement so he asked her to flash her checkout light if the answer was yes.

Carol's son Steve, aged seven then presented her with flowers while the whole event was videoed by Carol's other son Timothy, aged 16.

"I seemed to be only one who knew nothing about it. It was really embarrassing. Everyone started clapping when I flashed the light," said Carol.

The couple, of Summerfield Drive, Moulton, met through the Northwich Guardian's Two's Company on September 16 last year.

"I had been divorced for two years and I was feeling lonely. I thought I had nothing to lose," said Carol.

Keith, who works for Support Housing Network, which gives home support for people with learning disabilities said he was extremely happy with the way things had turned out.

"Carol grew on me. She's so loving and a really nice person. I found myself falling in love with her. Now I can't bear to be apart from her for a minute," he said.

The couple are to be married in the Dominican Republic on August 27 next year.
