A NORTHWICH Road resident wants traffic thundering past his home to slow down.

Richard Cox said he'd noticed a dramatic increase in the speed of traffic on the road since he returned to the town after living abroad for three years.

"It is absolutely dreadful," he said.

"The house shakes when lorries are accelerating up to 60mph or decelerating as they approach the town.

"I think the only person who keeps to the speed limit is the postman on his bike."

The father-of-three wants action to make vehicles stick to the 30mph speed limit before the 60mph zone approaching Chester Road.

He suggests sleeping policeman or a camera that flashes up the speed of a vehicle as it passes - not reducing the speed limit.

"Yesterday I took pictures of the traffic and continued with the flash when the film ran out - it is amazing how people slowed down," said Mr Cox, who has owned his home near Sudlow Lane junction for 12 years.

Mr Cox believes that residents can tackle the traffic problem.

"A few years ago a neighbour Ida Gould organised a petition which led to reducing the speed limit from 40 to 30 mph," he said.

Yesterday (Tuesday) Mr Cox met Mrs Gould to examine records she kept during her campaign.

He also hopes to arrange a meeting with Knutsford traffic Sgt Brian Rogers.
