A CAMPAIGN against a 100-acre warehouse site, which could flood the A556 with more traffic, is gathering pace.

More than 100 residents of Ascol Drive and Plumley village have signed a petition against the proposals for the Long Wood development - across the borough border in Vale Royal.

"A lot of people are sending in their own submissions," said Janet Lucas from Ascol Drive Residents' Association.

"But it's amazing the number of people who don't know about this development.

"It's our job to get over to them just what might happen."

Plumley residents fear the food distribution warehouse will swamp the A556 with traffic and encroach on the green belt near their homes.

Vale Royal and Cheshire County Council both back the plan.

But locals, Macclesfield Borough Council and the Ministry of Agriculture want to see it thrown out by the public inquiry.
