PAUL Goodwin produced a season's best knock on Saturday to earn Knypersley the runner's up spot in the league.

Goodwin hit a superb 84 not out as Knypersley jumped from third to second in the table with a victory at Newcastle and Hartshill.

However the 20 points they gained was not enough, as leaders Little Stoke also won to take the title by 13 points.

Colin Wilkinson was Knypersley's best bowler, taking four for 16 off 18 overs, 10 of which were maidens, as Newcastle were bowled out for 131.

Mark Tournier was also in fine form with the ball, claiming four for 65 off 22 overs, Andy Farr chipping in with a wicket.

Newcastle lost their first man with the score on nine, and were 113 for six at one stage before losing their next four wickets for 18 runs.

Knypersley were soon in dire trouble in reply, losing their first two wickets for three runs.

However number three Goodwin steadied the ship, putting on 97 with Steve Farr, who scored 36.

Knypersley knocked off their target in 26 overs, ending on 135 for three.

Tournier ended the season as Knypersley's top batsman with 804 runs, his best ever total for the side.
