CREWE CC 1st XI made sure of avoiding the dreaded drop into Division 2 of the NS & SC League with a convincing 5 wicket victory in their final match of the season at Caverswall last Saturday.
Needing 7 points to be sure of staying up Crewe invited the home side to bat first and Caverswall eventually declared on 154 for 7.
In reply Crewe made a disastrous start losing Kashi Rao for 0 but a crucial partnership between Simon Walton and Tom Gower made 68 before the latter was caught 1 short of his half century.
Walton continued to steer Crewe to victory and survival with 47no assisted by Tony Waddington (18), Bernie Bishop (11) and Alan Clarke (11)
