ELWORTH'S final game of the season in Division A of the North Staffordshire & South Cheshire Cricket League, against Longton, looked doomed to a boring draw until the final half an hour.
That was before an exhilarating Jeff Maynard century took the scores level on the final delivery.
Longton batted first and, despite Paul Crompton and Greg Sanders bowling tightly initially, managed 220 for 8 after insistently batting on into the 60th over.
Elworth were left only 41 overs and were reduced to 124 for 5 with 13 overs left. A nail-biting climax saw Maynard smash the ten runs needed from the final over to bring the scores level.
