Moore 32

Duckenfield 3

MOORE went into this first round Tetley Vase game as underdogs to a powerful Duckenfield side which included former Great Britain Rugby League full back Graham Steadman.

The game must rate as one of Moore's greatest victories and pays tribute to the coaching given by Frank Williams and his assistants.

Moore showed how much they have progressed in recent seasons, taking on Duckenfield in the forwards and applyng pressure through their backs.

The half-time score was 3-3 with Moore's points from the boot of Ian Allen.

Moore raised their game in the second half. In the pack Ian McLarney was outstanding while the backs ran in tries from Colin Stephenson and Ian Allen. Forwards Ian Williamson and Tony Hallsworth also got a try each.

Allen converted three of the four tries and added a second penalty.

Full back Colin Stephenson was awarded man of the match.

A close game saw Moore Rugby Union seconds come out 30-27 victors against Birchfield.

Tries were scored by Rawlings, G. Potter, M. Woollacott and Niel Bake. M. Cooke added two conversions and a penalty with G. Potter also converting a penalty.

Moore thirds lost 18-10 to British Steel.
