NEWTON seconds finished the season with a fine batting display to overcome New Brighton.

An opening stand of 63 by Watson and Small got New Brighton off to a fine start but wickets fell steadily once it had been broken.

They declared at 184 for five, giving Newton plenty of time to take on the run chase.

N. Birchall fell with the score on 21 but N. Morgan made the most of his promotion to third bat by adding 99 for the second wicket with I. Holcroft.

Morgan hit 62 in 71 balls, including 11 fours and D. Chadwick played a fine cameo of 34 not out in 23 balls to see Newton home.

Holcroft carried his bat for 52 not out as Newton sauntered home with 10 overs to spare.

The thirds totalled 161-7 against Ormskirk but then found their opponents had no intention of chasing a win. They finished on 85-6 after 50 dreary overs. David Boardman took 3-6 off 12 overs.

On Saturday and Sunday. a working party is renovating the square. Players please note.

On Friday, October 2, the club is holding its annual presentation dinner for the seniors and juniors.

Winter nets start at the Selwyn Jones Sports Centre on November 2 with juniors at 6.30pm, under 15 and seniors at 7.30pm.
