WARRINGTON'S under 20 men's athletics team finished seventh in the National Junior Club Championship at Cannock on Sunday.
Up against world and European medalists in most events, two silver medals from Carl McMullen were all they had to show for their effort.
Carl's success came in the 400 metres with a fine 49.5secs in blustery conditions and the long jump with 6.75m.
His performance was all the more impressive when you take into account that he took a bad fall while leading in his specialist event, the 400m hurdles.
Alan Pinkney and Mike Endersby gained personal bests in the 110m hurdles but it was not good enough to get among the medals.
This was the last junior appearance for at least three of the team as they now move on to senior competition next year.
Team manager Bob Endersby said: "The success of the junior team has already paid dividends as they form the backbone of the senior men's team that recently gained promotion to Division Two.
"The club need to attract new athletes now so that they can be prepared for next season and are ready to replace those moving and strengthen the existing squad.
"'We have excellent new facilities at Victoria Park with experienced coaches in most disciplines.
"We would be pleased to see any interested parties on any Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6.30pm onwards."
