BEING a comedy sidekick for Radio One star Chris Moyles isn't always an easy job for Warrington's Dave Vitty.

Apart from being the regular butt of the roly-poly DJ's jokes, on Wednesday alone "Comedy Dave" lost more than £100 and had to run through the corridors of the BBC with his trousers round his ankles.

The former Padgate student and Leicester Street resident is taking it all in his stumbling stride.

"It's a brilliant job and Chris and producer Ben are great blokes to work with.

"We're like three drinking mates who work together really well and enjoy the job," he said.

The 24-year-old studied Media Studies with Business before landing a job at a regional BBC radio station as a studio engineer.

A stint with the Mark and Lard Show followed before Dave was introduced to up and coming DJ Chris Moyles. The rest, as they say, is history.

He added: "I have been really fortunate to get where I have in such a short space of time. It's what I've always wanted to do but never thought things would happen so fast."

Dave's inspiration and desire to work in radio stemmed from another of the town's famous sons, Chris Evans, who he met by chance about a month ago.

"He was one of the reasons I wanted to get into radio. We chatted a lot about the town and the places we both knew, about where he grew up and the college.

"I just love the place and have some great memories of my time in Warrington," he said.

The bright lights of the capital and a host of celebrity parties doesn't stop Dave from coming back to his roots once in a while.

Next stop for the Moyle's and Co.'s showbiz juggernaut is an afternoon show on Radio One and a TV series on the Beeb's new digital network. More trouser-dropping antics are no doubt inevitable.
