THE 1998 Vale Royal Show has been hailed as a stunning success which saw the borough's creative talents in all their glory.

People from all corners of Vale Royal gathered at the Winsford Civic Hall on Saturday to be judged on a range of exhibitions from vegetables, fruits and flowers, to food, wines and handicrafts.

And the inclusion of schools and children's sections meant that all generations were able to play a part.

Clr Brian Lloyd, chairman of the borough council's leisure and community partnerships commitee, which organises the event, was delighted with the response to one of the highlights of the Vale Royal year.

He said: "It was an exceptional show. I'm not an expert on these things, being probably the worst gardener in the world, but I think it was better than last year and it's good that the people of the area got involved. Everyone enjoyed it.

"It was also nice to seee so many young people getting involved, like one nine-year-old boy I spoke to who had won a prize in the photographic section."

Following the outstanding success of this year's show, Clr Lloyd is aiming to raise the event's profile even further for next year.

He said: "It's going from strength to strength but this is a big borough and it would be nice to see more people involved from the extreme ends. That's what I'm aiming to do for next year."
