HORNETS and St Michaels played their opening game of the season in a youth local derby.
Both defences were on top throughout the game with some superb tackling.
Hornets suffered a blow after 15 minutes losing Craig Talty with a knee injury reducing them to 12 men. They rallied and took the game to St Michaels.
A strong well-timed run from Paul Goulding found a gap in St Michael's defence to score a fine try.
Hornets continued to press and were rewarded after some neat passing with centre, Danny Yates, touching down in the corner, to give Hornets a 8-0 lead at half-time.
St Michaels started the second-half well and capitalised on Hornet's errors and Lea Woodruff took advantage of an overlap to touchdown.
A further try came when Lee Welch ran onto a long kick to collect the ball and score under the posts. Both tries were converted.
Twelve-man Hornets raised their game again and constant pressure was rewarded with a third try by Ian Dourley who dived over to level the score and earn Hornets a well deserved draw.
Hornet's momwas strong tackling Daniel Stanley with Lee Abbott and Martin Scott continuing to impress.

Goals came from John Hetherington, David Jones, Richard Myler and David Dourley.
Mom went to David Dourley, top tackler with an excellent game went to Jonathon Kelly.
Newcomer Nathan Ashall had an encouraging game but by far the most improved player in today's game was Stephen Connor with some outstanding play-making.

BOTH teams gave to a fine, entertaining game played in good spirit.
Danny Nelson was mom and scored four tries. He was well backed up by Adam Prendergast, Gareth O'Brien and Jake Fraser (2), while Ryan Davies, Lee Holland, Richard Bamber and Bradley Jones all ran well.
Prendergast was voted top tackler and was supported in a very strong defence by Dominic Smith, Darren Clark, Callum Connolly and new boy David Ellison, who was voted most valuable player.

Blackbrook u7s 36
HAVING lost their first game, Hornets took on a very spirited Blackbrook team and this time came away the victors.
Ryan Risley captained the side and led by example scoring three excellent tries as did Liam Hulme. However, four tries from Kyle Ogburn after some powerful runs deservedly earned him the mom.
Top tackler went to Ryan Risley and most improved player went to Jamie London. The squad as a whole contributed to a fast open game and can feel very pleased with their performance.
