Pyke Cup

Mond Rangers 2

Poulton Victoria 3

MOND took an early led when Mackrell went down the left and crossed to the far post where Robbie Wood rose to head the ball back across the goal and into the top corner.

Vics bounced back and their pressure paid off in the 28th minute when Simon Lewis latched on to a through ball and shot past the Mond keeper.

Mond were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the half when Wood was brought down but Alex Maxwell saw his spot-kick pushed away for a corner by Skupski in the visitor's goal.

Vics went on to take the lead in the 54th minute when a cross by Pollard was volleyed home by Ray Bentley from 10 yards.

Another cross from the right was powerfully headed home by Martin Lewis in the 63rd minute to put Vics 3-1 ahead.

In the 78th minute Wood went clear and slid the ball under the big keeper to bring Mond back in to the game. The nearest Mond came to equalising after that was with a 25 yard pile-driver from Crane that dipped over the crossbar.

Next Saturday Mond Rangers are at home in the First Round of the Cheshire Amateur Cup against Tintwistle Villa from the Manchester League, kick-off 3pm. The game has been sponsored by William Brown of Runcorn. Tintwistle were the club who provided Liverpool with Alf Arrowsmith in the 60s and last season won the Manchester Amateur League without losing a point, they also won the Petite Cup.

Pavilions Cup 5

Mond Ranger's Reserves 1

ON this form Mond Reserves are in for a hard season. It was a poor performance and a complete reversal after last week's good display at Helsby.

The in-form Pavilions outfit had no problems retaining their unbeaten record, with ex-Mond players, Colin Kudrucz (3) and Eddie Droughton amongst the goals.

A fine debut display by new signing Kevin Ward and another brilliant performance by young keeper Paul Rooke were two good pointers to manager Rod Looker. Ward also scored a fine individual goal when he beat the Pavilions' sweeper, rounded the keeper and walked the ball home.

North West Youth Alliance

Mond Youth 0

Euxton Villa 4

THREE first-half goals sank the youth team against an impressive Euxton team. A better second-half performance restricted the visitors to a single goal. Mom, Lewis Holmes.

Mond Rangers Ladies 0

Bangor City Ladies 7

MOND Ranger's Ladies played host to Bangor City Ladies who were promoted to the newly formed Women's Combination League.

Despite there being two divisions between the teams, the home side could quite easily have led by two goals inside the first 15 minutes when Shirley Hallmark headed just past the post and Kath Bell felt she was bundled over in the penalty box without reward.

After a third near miss from Jenny Young, Bangor cashed in on a defensive lapse to open the scoring after 25 minutes and by half-time led 3-0.

Mond's hopes of getting back into the tie were dashed straight after the interval as Bangor went four goals ahead after only two minutes, and as the home sides's chances dwindled, Mond utilised all their substitutes to give them the experience of playing against top class opposition.

Bangor scored twice more running out 7-0 winners and must look forward to going into the hat for the Second Round draw.

Mond Ranger's Ladies return to domestic matters next Sunday, October 4, in a tough league game at Phoenix Ladies of Preston.

This is followed by a visit to Preston North End Ladies on October 11.
