Pyke Cup

Mersey Royal 1

General Chemicals 2

CHEMICS were at full-strength for this tie with club captain Gary Moore and Terry Noon back in action and former Clitheroe striker Colin Smith making his debut.

But this didn't stop a strong Royal team going ahead with a superb 30 yard drive which left Chems keeper Littler with no chance.

Enter Paul Howard in the second-half. Firstly, with a near post bullet-header from a Gary Moore corner, Howard powered the Runcorn side back into the game.

Then, five minutes later he sent a delightful ball down the left for the speedy Dexter Rismey to collect and from outside the penalty area fire home.

It was only what Chemics deserved. They then showed they have learnt from the past and defended well to win the game and go in the hat for the quarter-final draw.

John Garrigan, Chemics centre-back, was outstanding but it was that man Dexter who took the mom award.

Next week Chemics have no match but a friendly is arranged for Wednesday, September 30, 7pm kick-off at Pavilions against Aintree Villa.

The Runcorn outfit now have a strong squad of players and are hoping that striker Arnold will be returning from America for the next league game. Chems £100 tote winner was J James with number 176.

General Chemicals FC are sponsored by Maltacourt Limited of Widnes.
