For it was the official launch of Griffiths Park, the Millennium park for the residents of Rudheath.

Many dignitaries attended Rudheath High School, last Friday, to hear about the ongoing regeneration work in Griffiths Park, which is expected to be ready in early 2000.

Pupils from the school performed dance and poetry readings, there were slides, talks and videos from involved organisations including ICI-Zeneca, Groundwork and the Millennium Commission

Rudheath Community Funday took place on Saturday when, after a disappointing turnout for the football and hockey coaching sessions, many people turned up for the afternoon's activities.

Displays included those from Groundwork, ICI, the parish council, Vale Royal Borough Council, Rudheath High School and Hartford School of Gymnastics.

Winners of the Best Kept Garden Competition were Mr and Mrs Douglas Blackham, of Laburnum Road, Rudheath, who received a plaque and a £50 cheque from Rudheath Rose Queen, Danielle Holland.

Rudheath parish councillor Olwyn Dean said: "The whole thing went very well. This wasn't only a celebration for the launch of Griffiths Park but a celebration of Rudheath.

"Most local groups turned out and showed what was available in Rudheath."
