The team consists of immigration officers from Manchester Airport, who are trying to raise money to help little Andrew Guilfoyle, the son of two of their colleagues.

Andrew, aged 9, of Wilmslow, suffered terrible injuries when he was hit by a car two years ago. It is now unlikely that he will walk or talk again.

The team hopes to raise £30,000 to install special disabled equipment at Andrew's family home.

Team secretary Paul Mathias, of Britannia Drive, Winnington, said: "The response from this area has been really good.

"We're now on the final push for anyone who can sponsor us, or who would like to join the team."

So far, the appeal's activities have raised £8,000. These have included a dressing-down day at Delarue Fortronic at Gadbrook Park, and several donations from members of government departments including the Home Office.

There's also a prize draw on January 20 next year, with prizes including air tickets, holidays and sports equipment.

Tatton MP Martin Bell, the honorary president of the appeal, will visit Snowdon on the day of the climb - as will Andrew - to wave off the departing walkers.

So if you'd like to join or sponsor the team, or to enter the draw, ring Paul on 01606 330758, or HM Immigration at Manchester Airport on 0161 489 2097.
