ALSAGER'S relentless goals machine rolled right over Stallington on Saturday in a 5-0 exhibition of classic finishing.

The home victory saw Alsager go top of the league on goal difference over Norton, although the crowd had to wait for the goals feast until the second half.

Midfielder Steve Brown set Alsager on their way with a diving header on 20 minutes after connecting with a cross from the left from fellow midfielder Steve Faint.

Gareth Rowe made it 2-0 early in the second half when he ran onto a through ball in the 55th minute before slamming the ball past the keeper.

Faint made it three on the hour with a far post header from a cross, and Rowe grabbed his second 20 minutes from the end.

An Alsager corner was cleared only as far as John Bentley, who whipped the ball back in again for Rowe to head home.

However the goal of the afternoon belonged to sub Wayne Brotherton, who had hit the bar twice in the space of five minutes after being brought on in the 75th minute.

Brotherton received the ball 25 yards out before drilling it home.

"Wayne's goal was fabulous, although our defence deserves a mention, having kept a clean sheet now for eight and a half hours,'' said Alsager boss Steve Booth.

"We have scored 40 and conceded just four this season, and the fans are really enjoying it.

"People are saying it's the best team down here for a long time, and the crowds are getting entertained. I'm absolutely loving it.''
