VICTORIA Community Centre has been bowled over by a cash boost from Afford Rent-a-Car after securing a 12-month sponsorship deal.

The deal, which is set to benefit the bowling and football leagues, will provide a new bowls mat, a league cup and other valued equipment.

Councillor Jayne Wright, chairperson of the council's Leisure Services Committee, said she was very grateful to the company for their investment.

"We know there's a lot of pressure on businesses these days as they receive many requests for sponsorships and funding," she said.

"So we are delighted about Afford's kind support and we are looking forward to a happy partnership with them."

She added that bowling was very popular at the centre and that the league was looking for new teams.

"Bowling itself is really a lot of fun and attracts all ages to take part," she said.

"At the centre the bar area has recently been completely refurbished and no doubt the clubs involved will take advantage of the comfortable surroundings."

The league starts on October 4, costs £6 to register a team of at least six players, and £9 for weekly match fees. To register call the Oakley Centre on 01270 211422 and ask Caroline Burrows about the Afford Bowls League.
