FORMER Malbank School pupil Julia Harborth is well on her way to becoming a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy.

Julia, aged 25, from Nantwich, has successfully completed the initial stage of officer training at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.

The eight-month course has been at a hectic pace and included two months in the Type 22 Frigate HMS Coventry as she came home on completion of operations in the Persian Gulf.

Her parents Brian and Pat travelled down to Dartmouth in Devon to see her in the Passing Out Parade.

Julia, pictured, joined the Royal Navy in January after graduating from Lancaster University where she read International Relations and Strategic Studies.

She spent time travelling in Australia and the Far East before working as a administrator for the Management Charter Initiative.

Sub Lieutenant Harborth has now started flight academics at BRNC before professional flight training.
