SUPERMARKET giant ASDA is offering a £1,000 reward following a serious assault on a woman employee by two shoplifters.

Two men were caught on ASDA's store cameras in Crewe last Wednesday, September 23, at 6.31pm.

One took a bottle of Schnapps from a shelf and hid it in his clothes, they then went to the delicatessen and got two pieces of chicken.

They headed out of the store, followed by a female store detective, and were caught on the town centre cameras outside the supermarket.

The store detective tackled one of the men in the car park and as he struggled free he lost his shirt leaving him in just a vest.

He ran off and the detective caught the second man but they fell into a hedge on the edge of the car park and struggled on the ground before he attacked the woman and escaped.

The men may come from outside the Crewe area and ASDA stores are offering a £1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The first offender is described as a white male, in his mid 20s, six feet tall, slim but muscular build with short ginger hair.

He wore a striped top, which he lost during the struggle in the car park, dark jeans and brown boots.

One witness said he looked as though he had possibly come from manual work and another thought he might have a tattoo on his right arm.

The second man was a white male, about 5 feet 5, with short dark hair and a grey sweatshirt with a circular motif on the back and blue jogging bottoms with a wide white stripe down one side.

One member of the public told an ASDA worker that they knew who the men were and the employee told them to call the police but they have not.

IF you do or if you saw the incident and have any information that can help please ring the CID at Crewe on 01270 500222.
