THE Co-op which will face the proposed giant Asda superstore this week expressed serious concern about the plans.
A spokesman for United Norwest Co-op told the World: "We shall be attending a regeneration meeting on Tuesday night. We will be saying that we have grave reservations about the viability of so much shopping in the town centre. We will making that known at the meeting to which we have been invited."
The Co-op invested millions of pounds two years ago in a major revamp at its complex in the new Windmill Centre.
The company has a food store, electrical, furniture and carpet outlets plus a petrol station situated across the road from the proposed Asda.
