WHITLEY Pool was the venue for the last leg of this year's Lymm Angling Club summer series.
All competitors found the water performing reasonably well, although the catch rate was not as predicted following the reports of members who had been practising earlier in the week.
Steve McMurray won the match with 32lbs 12ozs 0drms, made up of five carp to 9lbs.
The overall winner of the series was, again, Eddie Phillips. However, he was pushed to the wire this year by four other competitors who mathematically could have won the honours on the day.
The club's winter series will commence shortly. The closing date for this competition is October 25. Members wishing to book their place must give Ian Taylor a ring on 01744 601632.
Longbarn Pool and Lymm Dam are fishing steadily with plenty of roach, skimmers and perch coming out. Pike on these waters are very active and offer good sport. Carp anglers are also enjoying action on the Dam.
Some colour has returned to Statham Pool over the last week which has evidently improved the angler's lot. The little water is again providing good general catches for members.
The barbel bonanza continues on the River Severn at Atcham and Hossall, both near Shrewsbury, with dace determined to give a good account of themselves.
Atcham match weights are predominantly made up of barbel and dace, with good weights regularly recorded.
This water is available for outside matches. Clubs based in the Warrington and surrounding area can benefit from discounted rates if they book a match before October 31. To book give Ian Taylor a ring.
On Sunday, Steve Daley again enjoyed a good day's fishing on the River Bollin at Warburton Mill. Having fed his swim with hemp he then commenced to catch five barbel to 4lbs 9ozs, six chub to 2lbs 10ozs, six perch, 26 gudgeon, 10 dace, some trout and a pike of 1lb 10ozs.
Steve's method was trotting, with double red maggot on a size 16 hook tied to a 1.5lb hook length.
On a cautionary note, a member had his car stolen last month while fishing the Bollin at the Mill. Please take all the usual precautions when leaving your vehicle.
Members are reminded that proposals and nominations for this year's annual meeting have to be in the hands of the secretary by 8pm on Monday.
